Puppy Playschool
Running since 1998, our Puppy Playschool courses focus on socialising puppies in a friendly informal class situation rather than boring, formal exercises.
We use a modern reward based method called 'Clicker Training' so you won’t find any choke chains or drill sergeants here!
Puppy Playschool Covers Many Topics Including:
A Play Recall: teach your puppy to come when called
Walking on a Slack Lead: so that you don’t get sore shoulders!
Handling: Includes examining feet, eyes, ears, teeth etc (as at the vets)as well as grooming
Down on Command: this could save your puppy’s life!
'The Not Jumping up Game': to stop puppy jumping up on people or furniture
Free off lead association: With other puppies, in a controlled situation to learn ‘doggy language’. This is not a ‘free for all’.
You and your puppy are also welcome to a home visit of about an hour, giving one-to-one advice on all aspects of your puppy’s care and introducing you both to Clicker Training – it’s much easier to learn the first steps in your own home without the distraction of other puppies!
This will make the first class more fun for your puppy, as s/he will already understand the method. We also give advice on: house-training, travel sickness, chewing, feeding, crate training, jumping up, nipping children, and any other issues you may be experiencing.
Because we run a rolling intake system your puppy can join as s/he is ready.
Please note, your puppy must have had his/her first vaccination before joining. The hall floor is thoroughly sprayed with Virkon to minimise any risk of infection.
You are very welcome to come and watch a class without your puppy for free. Just let us know you're coming so that we can put out a few extra chairs!
If you would like to enroll your puppy, please download and complete the following enrollment form and return with a cheque for £105 (£25 for the home visit, £80 for the classes including a starter pack & clicker) made payable to Wagtails; or telephone the office to arrange an alternative method of payment.
